Why Redesign a Website?
While this site was redesigned as part of a final project in a user-experience design class, I was able to choose how I wanted to showcase my skills in HTML, UX, Bootstrap & CSS. So, Being a big fan of South Street Under Deli in Leesburg, VA but no so big of a fan of their web-interface, I chose to try my hand at redesigning their site for a better user-experience.
The Original Website
The original website’s layout lacks an organizational structure that allows the user more easily through the site while they are using it. To that end, the placement of specials, hours, and about section could stop viewers from wanting to learn more on the site.
The pages which showcase the menus for the deli, catering, and breakfast are placed with embedded images rather typed which the website. This can break up the flow and styling of the site and again, discourage the user from continuing deeper into the site.
I will not that there are some elements of the original site that are intentionally left out of my redesign as they did not make up the most important elements/pages of the South Street website (such as the thanksgiving pre-order page) or, I simply lacked the coding skills needed to create the element.
My Redesign Website
Keeping in mind that I am an armature UX designer, I did my best to incorporate what I had learned about readability, visual interest, user-experience, and creative design to make the South Street Website an overall easier experience for the user.
I focused on using visually appealing colors while attempting to keep with their brand/style via typography and use of oranges, browns, and pale yellows.
